Des Hughes, David Hughes and Ben Hughes and Tom Watson, plan to cycle the West to East route of Hadrian’s Wall starting late September 2010
Beginning at Bowness on Solway and ending at South Shields.
We plan to complete the route in a maximum of 2 days covering around 50 miles per day.
Des, David and Ben are the Husband, and sons of Agnes, who suffers from Relapsing remitting MS. They decided that the time had come to make people aware of this debilitating condition and the help that is out there in the form of the MS society. They also plan to raise funds along the route and will rely on the kindness of the towns and villages along the route to help spur them on their way, as this is the first time they have ever attempted anything like this. Agnes’s sons are 15 and 10, and they are looking forward to making this achievement for both their mum and the society in general.
After the recent enquiries into the assisted suicide laws, which were heavily covered in the media, it spurred Des and his sons to do something to show the positive side of what the MS society do to help improve sufferer’s lives. We feel that its important for those who suffer and those who care for sufferers,to be aware that help is out there. We also feel that its important to share our knowledge of this condition and inform as many people as we can along our route on exactly what Multiple Sclerosis is - and how it can affect people.
Tom is Agnes’s younger brother, and as a carer himself, he knows how important the support and advice of organisations like the MS society are in helping sufferers.
When we asked Tom to help, he was absolutely delighted to get the opportunity.
Ben Hughes is 10 years old and as far as we are led to believe this will be the first time that a child of this age will attempt to cycle the Hadrian’s cycleway. David is 15 and Des is 41 and Tom is 33.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please be assured that EVERY penny of donation to our justgiving page will be given to the MS society for the direct benefit of its members. We are organizing this cycle ourselves and are dependant on kind donations of equipment, services and goodwill to help us complete our journey.
Any donations no matter how small or how large are very welcome.
We will be choosing at random one donation at the end of the event and sending a goody bag full of items collected along our route and some memorabilia of our cycle.
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank those who have donated so far. Many thanks.
Please Take the time to visit our official website at www.hadrianscycle2010.co.uk It contains lots of information and news about our event.
