Story

Hadrian's Wall 09

A Brand New Challenge for Charity Adventure!

We're cycling 175 miles from Ravenglass to Tynemouth over the Hadrian's Cycleway route which takes in breathtaking scenery as we pass through the Lake District and over the Pennines. The ride starts on Friday 16th and finishes on Sunday 18th and each night we meet up with our very own Tour Bus near places where we can shower, change, eat, drink and generally have a good time whilst rasing a load of cash for Parkinson's Disease Society!

We're leaving from Xscape Castleford 8:00pm on the evening of Thursday 15th October by Tour Bus so that we can get to the start point at Ravenglass in time for a good night's sleep before we have to start cycling!

Friday 16th October - Early o'clock: Starting at the Roman Bath House, we head off for Silloth, a little over 53 miles away, where we stay for the night in the tour bus. The sight of Silloth will come as a welcome relief for the riders!

Saturday 17th October - Morning arrives and we'll set off for Greenhead some 61 miles away. This will be the hardest day of the 3 as we cycle (or walk!) up some pretty steep climbs including the Banks. We'll stop for numerous photo opportunities...

Sunday 18th October - After another night's sleep we'll set off for Tynemouth, approximately 60 miles away. There's a tough start to the day with the climb out of Greenhead but there'll be a fantastic descent into the South Tyne valley at Haltwhistle. Then the route undulates to Bardon Mill where it climbs steadily up the north flank of the South Tyne valley to a summit at Smith's Shield before a thrilling descent to Vindolanda, which must be paid for by a very stiff climb up to the highest summit of Hadrian's Cycleway at Crindledykes - 256 metres above sea level. The last 23 miles is a nice gradual downhill run to the coast where we'll dip our front wheels into the North Sea before we rush to the nearest fish and chip shop!!

Costs are £30 entry fee and £125 for accommodation and transport.

We're raising money for the Parkinsons Disease Society (http://www.parkinsons.org.uk) which is a charity very close to my heart as my Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's 7 years ago. If you can't come please remember to sponsor us a few quid below!

Anyone is welcome on this ride and novices are encouraged to join! It's a little tougher going than our other rides but a great event to test you!

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.
