During the weekend of 30th-31st May '09 our team will be competing in a gruelling 100km / 65mile endurance trek which must be completed within just 30 hours! The circular route, starting and finishing in Skipton, will take us over some of the highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales and along the wild rugged terrain of the Pennine Way- challenging our team work, self-discipline, stamina and navigation skills to the max.

Its going to be tough but we're (getting) ready- our Trekking Team have committed themselves to train hard and to suffer, our Support Crew to offer help and give encouragement... and thats when we need you and your wallet! With your support and donations we are sure to cross that finish line knowing that our fundraising targets have been met so please sponsor us whatever you feel you can comfortably give. Every donation is gratefully received :)

We are aiming to raise £1,500 or more with all money collected helping Oxfam alleviate poverty and make a huge difference to some of the poorest people across the world. Long-term development projects include the construction of school vegetable gardens in Mali or providing primary education for indigenous communities in Bangladesh, whilst two of the current emergencies that Oxfam are responding to include the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the cholera epidemic in Zimbabwe.

We reached our initial sponsorship target of £1,500 on the 12th May (two and a half weeks before the imposed deadline) which finally entitles us to take part in the event. Phew... that’s a relief! Anything extra we receive is an added bonus.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has so kindly donated money, time and effort and in doing so have helped us to achieve the first part of our goal. Your generosity has been amazing, but now it is time for us to do the hard work...

Great news... we made it! The Haisthorpe Hobblers team battled blood, sweat and blisters (plus a perforated eardrum, missing toenails, tendonitis, heat stroke, etc) to complete the Oxfam TrailTrekker 100km/65ml Challenge in just 29hrs 7mins.

 

We woke early on Saturday to great weather (though maybe a little too hot for an endurance event) which continued to stay clear and dry for the rest of the weekend. Almost 700 walkers set off from the Skipton start with a large amount retiring due to injury or exhaustion along the way. We were lucky enough to have a fantastic support crew to look after us, feed us and give us that vital morale boost which helped us to continue pounding out the miles right until we’d crossed the finish line.

 

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for your generous donations which have so far helped us to raise an amazing £2,033.97 (incl Gift Aid) for Oxfam and we still have more money promised to come in the near future. Your support has been amazing!
