the DREADful debate- to chop or not to chop! · 6 September 2013

ActionAid is an international charity working with women and girls to create a more just, equitable and sustainable future. We work across the world with local communities, women's networks and other allies to support women and girls as they tackle injustices and claim their rights.

Story

1 head of dreads. 1 pair of scissors. 1 amazing charity. YOUR decision.

You should all know by now that I love my dreads like they are my own tiny, hairy children. They've been my companion for two dramatic years, bearing the trials of confused relatives ("Is your hair actually REAL?", was a much-appreciated outcry from my grandmother), unimpressed academics and general uncleanliness. They've been soaked in Oxford rivers, dragged through Glastonbury mud and travelled as far away as Mexico. It's safe to say we're pretty inseparable.

OR ARE WE?

In a moment of madness, which will potentially ruin my hair happiness forever, I've decided to place the future of my darling dreadlocks in YOUR hands.

It's pretty simple. If you are pro chop and want to doom me to eternal misery: donate on this page.

If you're anti chop (can't imagine this page doing so well..!): donate HERE: http://www.justgiving.com/hannahjakes2

When the battle has raged, the most page with most donations gets its way and my unhygienic hippie days may well be behind me.

All donations will be going directly to an amazing ActionAid project working with drought-hit families in Lesotho. Droughts have meants that crops have failed for three years in a row, leaving many families without food and at risk of violence. ActionAid are working with Lesotho families to provide tools and training, allowing families to help themselves and create sustainable solutions to hunger. It's critical work, so dig deep :) Thanks!
