Story
Hi everyone,
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page! Let me tell you a wee bit about Contact the Elderly and the group we would like to raise money for and why....
Contact the Elderly was established in 1965 to relieve the acute loneliness of frail, very older people living alone with limited or inadequate social support.
Its service is perhaps more vital now than at any other time, as life expectancy grows and patterns of family life change, increasing numbers of older people find themselves living alone.
Through a volunteer network, Contact the Elderly offers a simple yet hugely effective act of friendship, providing a lifeline, as each month volunteer drivers take otherwise-housebound older guests to the home of volunteer hosts, where all enjoy the warmth of friendship for a few hours.
Our group is a bit different: Nicknamed the 'GoMA Group' as our group of volunteers take our elderly guests to the museums and art galleries of Glasgow where they can enjoy a nice day out and a blether!
Everything we do is free and everybody volunteers for our group. We go out once a month but have never had an outing in December! As Christmas is often the loneliest time of year for so many people it would be great to raise enough money to take our guests out to have a Christmas lunch or even to see a show.
Susan came up with the great idea to run the 10k in Inverness to raise money for us and even better, she is doing the run to raise money for us too!
So please give what you can to make this a special Christmas for the elderly guests of our small group!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Contact The Elderly gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. So please sponsor us now!
