Why we're raising money...
My mum is turning 60(!) on the 16th December 2009 and to mark the occasion has asked for donations to charity rather than presents. I've started by donating £500 (approx $835), but wanted to make this into something wonderful - for my mum and the children around the world who benefit from this charity - by trying to double that amount. Wouldn't it be amazing if we could raise even more!?
How you can help...
There are many ways in which you can help:
1. Make a donation. It doesn't matter how large or small, every penny counts and goes directly to the charity.
2. Spread the word. Tell all of your family, friends and colleagues about what we're trying to achieve. Use email, Facebook, Twitter, your blog - be imaginative, can you get it on the radio or in the paper?! Even if only one extra person you contact makes a donation it will have been worth the 2 minutes of your time. It's really easy, just use the Share This Page button on the left of this page.
3. Offer goods or services to encourage larger donations. I'm offering to set up a basic website free of charge to the person who makes the largest donation* (my donation excluded). Do you have something you could offer to help gain more and bigger donations - an ebook, remote service, sponsorship, anything? Contact me if you have and we'll promote it on this page with a link to you or your business.

I'm offering to set up a basic website free of charge to the person who makes the largest donation (aside from my mine). If two people make the same donation, the first donation will be given this prize.
Please note that UK taxpayers wishing to to use Gift Aid cannot accept goods or services in return for their donation. Gift Aid helps raise more money (e.g. it adds £141 to my £500 donation), but using it is your choice.

About this charity...
SOS Children's Villages is the world's largest orphan charity. Child sponsors and donors worldwide provide a new family and home for more than 78,000 children in 500 unique Children's Villages in 124 countries. Their supporters also help a million children and their families through SOS community outreach programmes.
Their strategic goal for the next eight years is to help a million child sponsors give a million children a family life. Of these, one hundred thousand will be given a new family and home in an SOS Children's Village and nine hundred thousand, who might otherwise be street children, will be able to grow up within their own (extended) family with SOS's support.
