I did it Thank you very much for your generous support!
My time was 4h 24m 13s.
Right, this is a big one for me. I am entering into the London Marathon for myself and for WaterAid.
In the early days of warmer weather last year I watched the Marathon on TV from the sofa while the runners passed by less than three miles from where I was lying down. Now, it's me out there training in the wet, cold, rain and the wind that drives it beneath my skin. It's me trying to manage the delicate balance between injury and physical exertion in a slightly waning youth.
Why would I do such a thing? I want to raise £1,500 for WaterAid's work in helping provide safe water, sanitation and hygiene education for the worlds excluded, poorest communities. These things aren't a problem for us but it is for a lot of people. The statistic that impacts on me most is that approximately 5,000 children each day die from preventable water borne diseases. WaterAid works with local communities to build sustainable solutions, they work with local governments to ensure that they are providing the water and sanitation to where it's needed most.
Taking the varying costs for the different types of projects WaterAid does in the 17 countries where we work, it works out that £15 will provide safe water and sanitation for life for a person in need.
Please help me reach my goal of making a lifelong difference for 100 people by sponsoring me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: WaterAid will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
