Story
Hi All
I'm at it again! Yes in October I'm travelling back to Brazil to rebuild another dilapidated community school in rural Brazil. Many of you will know that I took part in a similar project last year which was a grueling, yet amazing experience.
This really is not a holiday! We were often working 12 hours a day is 40 degrees of heat and had dust devils, creepy crawlies and errant mangos to deal with! Tasks include knocking up cement (that's with a shovel not a mixer), plastering, cleaning toilets, digging, sifting, painting - the lot! There are no 'pink' tasks on these projects. At the end of a hard day's work there is no hotel to check into, just a two-man tent in the middle of nowhere!
In all seriousness though, these Projects are amazing. They transform the lives of the local children, who in a corrupt country like Brazil with little or no funding, could lose their chance to be educated if their school is not fit for purpose. Second best, their whole family is displaced and they have to move away from their home, which breaks up communities. By rebuilding this school, our group gives them hope.
The Project has two real benefits as the money raised by our group fundraising stays in the UK to help tackle bowel cancer. Please give what you can!
