Story

Thank you for visiting my bridging the gap fundraising page on the just giving website.

Read through the documentary (page) and please make a donation. Every penny counts and will go a long way to support us. The money will be used to support the school children and staff in delivering self sustainable projects. This entails: training and development of staff and pupils to handle activities, distribution of products, equipment, accessories and consumables.

I wish to shear a personal experience with you: Before coming to Africa, I was an IT consultant in the UK and as such had access to computers. I took a lot for granted even without realizing that I was taking them for granted. In my first 6 months I produced and ran a radio program called "IT for Today". Through this program I tried to educate the local community on aspects of Information and Communication Technology. Last year I took on running a computer lab at a university, for students minoring in computer science. During one particular lab session I was intrigued and casually decided to test one of my assumptions and was shocked to discover that in a Class of over 100 second and third year students, minoring in computer science, more than 50% did not have an email account. Less than 20% spent over 1 hour a month on the Internet for anything. None of the other departments could boast of higher percentages as I was told.

For those of you who might be interested in knowing, or who can imagine, I have been searching the South West Province for a physical file server of any sort that is being used for what ever purpose. I have looked in hospitals, schools, some offices and among computer enthusiasts. I still have not seen one. Apart from a few cyber caffee with networked computers for Internet access (usually very slow), there are no networked computers in this part of the world. It tells me a lot about the level and what to expect form the young people in this region in the area of ICT.

There are many stories that I can share, but the stories are just the tip of an iceberg of the reality on the ground. I am committed to making a difference in any way, shape or form that I can. There are some innovative projects and activities going on such as: Diligent bilingual weekly, scholarships, playground for kids, children caring for children, 16+ club, Most competitive class in schools competition, etc. We have also realized some good results in the last couple of years due to various efforts, support and commitments. I will strongly encourage tax payers to ensure that you tick the box for us to get the tax bonus if you choose to make a donation.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Bridging the Gap (Across Africa) will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

I thank you, and it is not enough for your support. Spreading the word, keeping the conversation alive, and taking that extra step to make a financial contribution no matter how small will go a long way to support us even beyond your imagination.

Please take a positive action.

So please sponsor me now!
