We are raising money for EGP Zambia 2011, which is part of the Edinburgh University Students' Association. Our great little group will be constructing a hammer mill, an operators' house and also be turning our eye towards community development in the Kafubu block community (an hour or so from the capital Lusaka) this Summer.
With the hammer mill, the farms of Kafubu will be able to grind their harvest to make flour and lots of other important substances for the community. At this current moment in time, the members of this community have to walk miles in order to access the closest mill, so we hope this will greatly help them, allowing the village to become more self-sustainable.
What we'll also be doing is interacting with 5 members from Kafubu to learn more about their community and international development in general. This and keeping in touch with the farmers after we leave will hopefully make a real difference to the lives of the workers, mothers, young children and families of this small Zambian community.
Throughout the year we'll be doing just about anything and everything (with a clear line to keep us in the acceptable, of course) to fundraise. One of the bigger things that team members Vikki and Emma have done is the Meadows Marathon.
We have to raise £8,743 for building materials and labour when on project. None of the money raised will fund our personal costs of the trip as we pay for those ourselves. All money donated will go towards the costs of the project. If you could give as much as you could we at EGP Zambia and the people of Kafubu would be so grateful.
Thank you.
