Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Our names are Harriet Smith and Sarah Bray, and we are both 17. We are currently studying for our A/S levels at Caldicot Comprehensive School. Sarah is studying French, History, English and Psychology and Harriet is studying French, Geography, English and Welsh. We are good friends and have been since we were four years old. We have been through Magor Church in Wales Primary School and Caldicot Secondary School together, as well as sharing many other experiences.
We have been given the opportunity to go to Uganda in August this year with a small charity, ‘Edith’s Home’
The Edith's Home Project works with total HIV/AIDS orphans in the community of Ngora, a small town in the Teso region of Uganda. Edith’s Home was set up in 2004 and was named after an elderly lady who’s heart for the orphaned children inspired the team. Edith has no children of her own, so all her resources are put into helping the orphans, who have been orphaned for a variety of reasons: AIDS, poverty and war.
Our team will be running a retreat for the orphanage, and from looking at the ‘Edith’s Home’ website (http://www.edithshome.com/) we realise how much this retreat means to the orphans, because as a result of the limited resources available in Uganda, these children are put to ‘the bottom of the pile’.
We need to raise £2,500 in order to fund the trip but would like to raise more so that we can provide much needed resources for the children being helped by this small Charity.
We have lots of ideas for fundraising and have been lucky that our friends, family, our own school and other schools in the community are willing to support us. A few of our ideas include: a Hawaiian night to include sponsored male leg waxing, non-uniform days, discos at two of the local primary schools, bag packing at Tesco and Iceland and a Community Concert.
We are both really excited at the prospect of going to Uganda. We feel that is will be a memorable experience and as well as having the opportunity to make a difference and help others, it will also hopefully put life into perspective for us. We cannot wait to start fundraising and look forward to promoting an awareness of Edith’s Home to our local community, as well as undertaking the actual trip. Whilst we are there we aim to carry out our own video log which we can show when we get home.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. We hope that our passion to undertake this trip to support the ‘Edith’s Home’ Charity has persuaded you to support us with our fundraising efforts to enable us to make a difference to the lives of the orphans in Uganda.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
