Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

I am part of a six man expedition leaving Chamonix on 18th April 2010 embarking on a ski mountaineering challenge known as The Haute Route, 119 miles over the top of the Alps from Chamonix to Zermatt. The journey should take 6 to 8 days depending on the weather and age! This is a very physical and demanding route which is through some of the most beautiful and extreme scenery to be found in Europe, over the course of the route their are many hazards and the glaciers have crevaces which have to be navigated too. I have been training for this event for nearly 12 months and so have my fellow mountaineers who are raising funds for their own causes.

Please donate to a charity close to my heart; Linkage Community Trust (Linkage). This very special charity does not get a lot of fundraising help, so every pound that comes in will make a difference.  Linkage offers lifelong help to people with learning disabilities and does everything in its power to enrich and enhance their lives, to make those lives full and purposeful and to provide the care, education and opportunities which maximise self esteem and confidence.  It works with the dreams and ambitions of each individual to maximise their independence and give them a real and meaningful future, the best future for each person they support.

The people that come to Linkage have a wide range of moderate or severe learning disabilities. These include Down’s Syndrome, Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Williams Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, speech and language difficulties, visual and hearing impairment and Epilepsy, sometimes compounded by other associated physical disabilities. The endless challenges that people with learning disabilities face every day of their lives often renders them incapable of any sort of independence.  Linkage believes that with the right support and opportunities, many people with complex disabilities can be helped towards relatively independent lives; they would not have the same opportunities to reach their dreams and ambitions if it was not for Linkage’s support.

Linkage has been piloting real work opportunities for the last eight years and has proved that with the right support for each individual they can work. Although already in operation Linkage’s employment service does not benefit from Public-sector funding and relies on donations.

By sponsoring me on this incredibly arduous expedition as I struggle with the elements and my own physical and mental challenges, you can help Linkage take away some of the challenges that people with learning disabilities face every day of their lives and also enable many more people to be supported and turn their dreams turn in to a reality.

Any donations large or small are welcome and, Linkage assures me, will be spent with great care.
