Cardiac Risk in the Young Verified by JustGiving
RCN 1050845 (England & Wales), SC052581 (Scotland)
Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

On June 3rd 2006 Chris Haw aged 25 died suddenly, postmortem results could not find cause of death. Unacceptable to Chris' mum Lesley contacted Cry; they provided information, support, and arranged specialist screening for the immediate family. Tests revealed Chris died from Brugada syndrome, a hereditary condition that could have been realised by Electrocardiogram and relief that Chris' siblings Jack and Jeni had not inherited the condition. This information was also used by the coroner to establish cause of death providing comfort to the family.

On April 13th Gav Copland and Lesley's partner Ben Watson will run 26.2 miles in memory of Chris, in support of Lesley, with all sponsorship money to Cry: Cardiac Risk in the Young, a registered charity.
