Save the Children exists to help every child reach their full potential. In the UK and around the world, we make sure children stay safe, healthy and keep learning, so they can become who they want to be. Your donation will help vulnerable children wherever the need is greatest.

Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Save the Children and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

I am taking on the amazing physical challenge to climb the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. It is over 5,895m high and will take 7 days through undulating terrain and high altitude. The final ascent begins at midnight, so there’s a 7-hour night-hike up a scree slope - an accumulation of broken rocks. I will be climbing with group of 24 DUCK volunteers - Durham University Charities Kommittee, to raise money for the Save the Children’s Charity. DUCK is an independent organisation, run exclusively by students at Durham University.

After the climb our group will be split into two projects to carry out voluntary work. One will continue with the work set down in Kitunda near Dar es Salaam, teaching a variety of subjects in the KLC - Kitunda Learning Centre. The other half will go up into the Hills near Tanga, for a project still based around teaching but with an aspect of ecology.

We will also get involved with some teaching or building and will bring some books for the school and small gifts for the families we stay with. The stay in the villages will also involve getting to grips with some cultural and language lessons in Swahili.

Thanks for helping Save the Children. They are working flat out to ensure children get proper healthcare, food, education and protection, saving lives in emergencies, campaigning for children's rights, and improving their futures through long-term development work.

Thank you for your Donation
