Story
Hello to all of you and many thanks for visiting my fundraising page , which you may have noticed has changed if you've visited before! I was originally going to complete a 10 day trek in Tanzania, but unfortunately due to injuring my feet I'm unable to walk any distance. Anyway - as I've received so much support from everyone, I've managed to rearrange my Challenge, and now:-
I am going to be completing a 10 day bike ride across Cuba from 12 - 21 November 2010 to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
This ten-day cycling expedition begins in the Cuban capital of Havana and ends by the Carribean Sea in Trinidad some 350kms later. Most of the cars on the road are large American Chevys and Buicks from before the revolution, and buildings have remained untouched for more than half a century. You can't help but be touched by the friendliness and pride that the Cubans feel for their country.
Outside of Havana, there are very few vehicles on the road and as Cuba has a strong biking culture. I'll be passing villages separated by colourful fruit orchards, sugar plantations and tree-lined avenues, and I will also see the monument to Che Guevera as I pass through Santa Clara.
I'll cycle through Cienfuegos, which sits in a bay facing the Caribbean Sea and has attracted pirates through the ages, and continue to the magnificent Sierra del Escambray before finally reaching Trinidad.
Over the next year I'm going to be organising lots of events, competitions and activities to meet my target, so if you're interested in finding out what's planned, please get in touch with me at clarkyhd@hotmail.com
Please take a look at Cancer Research UK's website if you'd like to learn more about what the charity is all about - http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/ . So many people are touched by cancer in one way or another every year that this seemed the best charity for me to raise money for.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
