Nicky and I were inspired to run for GTCA after reading about Georgia's story and the charity she founded, which aims to improve the lives of children and young adults in Essex who are suffering from cancer and other life threatening and life limiting conditions
Please take the time to read this extract written by Georgia's mum before she sadly passed away
Our Amazing Daughter
When you have a baby your life instantly changes. This child takes over and becomes the most important part. First it’s a little scary to think how you’ll be as a parent, if you are doing everything right. Then you start to wonder and realise you could never live without her. You watch her grow and excite over every new stage, always encouraging her to be the best she van be and are proud of all she achieves. You want to protect her from harm and take away the pain from her sadness, as all loving parents would.
When they told us Georgia had cancer it felt like a bomb had exploded, and completely shattered our lives. The control had been taken away and we felt completely powerless. Thrown like lambs into the hands of strangers that were to become the only hope for all our tomorrows. We prayed they had made a mistake, that this terrible nightmare was just a dream, but they hadn’t. So now we must pull from somewhere, the strength that we never believed we had.
People say how well we are coping and that we are really strong, but it is Georgia that has given us that strength. She is an incredible girl. How she has coped with all that she has been through is nothing less than amazing. She has the fighting spirit and maturity of a girl far beyond her years. Never once has she asked, “Why me?” or felt sorry for herself. She has carried on living her life. Holding her place whenever possible at netball matches and encouraging her team-mates to succeed in her absence. She is loved and admired by all the medics and astounds them with what she is still able to achieve while enduring the constant onslaught of gruelling chemotherapy. Her sparkle rarely wanes and her infectious smile and witty personality makes everyone’s day a little more bearable when we are on the ward.
Georgia’s strength of character is what has pulled us as a family through the past 15 months. She has been the rock that has held us up. She is unbelievably brave and a true inspiration to all of us.
There are no words to describe how proud we are of Georgia. She is one of life’s truly amazing people and we are very lucky to be her parents.
