We're really excited that thanks to your generosity 'The Garden Room' at Barnet Hospital opened on 11 October 2010. It is a special place where families can go to relax, especially if they are spending long hours with a loved-one who may be very ill, or reaching the end of their life.
The Garden Room has been built just for us by The Garden Escape Company and your donations will help us now with the finishing touches. The Hospital Friends have bought us comfy sofas, so people can stretch out and relax for a while; but we still need money for the 'little extras' like biscuits or snacks we like to leave for people to have with a nice cup of tea or coffee - even a restorative hot chocolate! The courtyard garden is small and we have some lovely plants to help us make it an oasis of peace and tranquility.
We were able to build The Garden Room through generous donations from the Late Fred Wolffing Estate: The King's fund; Barnet Hospital League of Friends: M&S Simply Food Southgate; local Waitrose branches; Nando's; the Garfield Weston Foundation; All Aboard Charity shops and of course to the hundreds of people who ran in our Fun Run in October 2009 or who have dropped money in our collection boxes. To every one we say a big thank you and we hope that you will make a donation to our ongoing fund to help improve facilities for End of Life Care.
We set out 2 years ago with the aim of having somewhere private for families, so that they no longer have to sit exhausted and tearful in busy hospital corridors. Somewhere they can just have a rest in peace and quiet, day or night.
