Having recently completed building a new facility for the Wobulenzi Town Academy, we are now building this centre on adjacent land. Building works commenced late October 2011.
This new facility will initially provide a centre for preventative health education as well as providing a base for innoculations etc. A well stocked pharmacy is included as this is one of the main requests received when consulting the local community elders about the project.
The Health & Community Centre is being built on land already donated to ServeDirect. The target of £17,500 represents the building and fitting costs as follows:
Building cost £9000, Fencing & Gates £1500, Latrines and Washrooms £2000, Borehole £1500, Landscaping & Road £500, initial Equipment & Fittings £3000.
By using local building methods, labour and materials; building costs are kept to roughly 5% of the equivalent UK building costs. Much needed investment into the local rural community also results from this method.
100% of all monies donated directly hit the target. ServeDirect has a team of resident local volunteers and any administration costs are covered separately. Huge thanks goes to the team of volunteers from the UK in November who helped kick off the building works.
The offline donations shown represent the excellent fundraising efforts of the ServeDirect November team as well as donations received within Uganda for the project. A special thanks to all those who helped with the first ServeDirect fundraising event held in Kampala that raised approx £3000 towards this project.
