Story

At approximately 00.30 on 16th June 2013 I awoke with a severe tightening in my chest.  I was having a heart attack.

I was 42 years old, happily married with two beautiful daughters.

It was a shock.  Definitely not something I'd planned for!

I've been very lucky.  I was treated immediately and didn't experience any further complications.  After spending four days in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, I returned home and have been rehabilitating ever since.

There are lots of people that aren't so lucky. 1 in 3 people that have Heart Attacks in the UK do not make it to hospital.

What happened to me could happen to anyone.  It's a scary business!

I'm doing these rides for 3 reasons:

1.  To give something back as a huge "Thank You!" for all the help and support I've received since my Heart Attack;

2.  To raise awareness.  Prevention is the best treatment; and

3.  Selfishly, to give myself a bit of a challenge and a focus to stay / get fit!

You can follow my journey at http://www.heartattackwaitingtohappen.com

Thanks for getting this far!  If you could take the final step and donate some money I'd be very grateful!  Your donations will help the British Heart Foundation fund the important research into prevention and treatment of Heart Disease.
