Story
On Friday 13th (lucky for some!) July, myself, Darren, Tony and Mark will be attempting the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
For the uninitiated this involves climbing the highest mountains of Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) on the same day. This is made all the more difficult by the fact that each one is at least 5 hours apart by car!
Last year my Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He had no symptoms whatsoever, but a particularly vigilant GP spotted something was wrong during a routine check-up. I am very relieved to say that after albeit very major surgery, he has made a good recovery.
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 9 men, although despite this statistic research in this area has been badly underfunded. Prostate Cancer UK not only help to fund research, but provide a wide range of support services to those diagnosed with the disease, and crucially work to raise awareness of the symptoms so that people can be treated before it's too late.
I have never attempted a challenge like this before, and I'm sure I will find it extremely tough, but knowing I am raising money for such a worthwhile cause will spur me on!
Whatever you can give, however small, will be very much appreciated.
