In memory of Lawrence Percy Heartwig
Donations cannot currently be made to this page
At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

update: so we've been on the road since 7/06/11 and it has been fantastic!!!! to  check out our adventure go to our blog www.heels2wheelsaroundtheworld.blogspot.com and you can also motivate us by liking our facebook page heels2wheels.

Thousand thanks to our supporters - you have been amazing!!!!

Hei, hei everyone out there!!!!

Firstly, thank You for your interest and secondly, we would like to introduce ourselves- we are Mirjam Kunnberg (Estonia) and Melissa Trott (Australia), two young women about to set out on an incredible adventure to help promote awareness and raise much needed funds for reaserch and for those living with Alzheimer's disease.

OUR mission is to cycle through 15 countries starting in

Portugal, then Spain ,France, Italy ,Slovenia ,Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey...and then depending on the political situation (due to recent events) Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Jordan. Ending with a long awaited and possibly much needed swim in the Dead Sea.

After the relaxing swim and hopefully some delicious meals, starts our journey North. For this advenure - stay tuned!

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia. In 2006, there were 26.6 million sufferers worldwide. Alzheimer's is predicted to affect 1 in 85 people globally by 2050. And for now it is an incurable, degenerative, and terminal disease

Like many families, Melissa has history of Alzheimer's disease running in her family. Her grandfather, Lawrence died with Alzheimer's.

Do You know anyone with Alzheimer's, We are sure that EVERYONE is somehow affected by this devestating disease which wants to steal the most precious thing in our lives - the ability to think, to remember..to recognise. To be the boss of Your own body!

We feel that a person's life can not be weighed by  material possesions, that memories are worth more than money can buy.

Our trip is going to be both mentally and physically demanding yet rewarding and one we hope we'll never forget.

Our aim is to raise equal (or substantally larger) sum of money to the kilometers we cycle..so our target is 4257.963 pounds - as many kilometers it takes for us to get from Lisbon to Jordan....a humble number.. :)

We are not rich moneywise, but we are doing everything within our powers to keep our lives rich with fantastic experinces and unforgettable memories

Whether You are a donation virgin, donation addict or just a Sunday donater - here is Your chance to do something extraordinary good with Your money and benefit from it in the future..or perhaps Your dearest ones.

. And by supporting us, You will help human kind to take small steps closer to the hidden secrets of Alzheimer's and when worse comes to worse...well..hopefully the researchers have had an enormous breakthrough in cure ..and if not. Heh, what the hell - we'll just write our journey into a book and keep reading it and keep reading it till it's burnt into our memories for ever. Or something like that.. :)
