1 in 100 people have coeliac disease, yet only 36% are diagnosed. Coeliac UK empowers everyone affected, breaking down barriers, improving everyday life, offering trusted support and advancing research towards a cure. And we do it all so that one day, no one’s life will be limited by gluten.

Story

This year Heidi was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease. Coeliac disease (pronounced see-liac) is not an allergy or simple food intolerance. In fact it's an autoimmune disease, where the body's immune system attacks its own tissues. In people with coeliac disease this immune reaction is triggered by gluten, a collective name for a type of protein found in the cereals wheat, rye and barley. Even the slightest crumb of gluten can cause an attack and therefore we have had to learn to be extremely careful with cross contamination of food.

Heidi is now thriving on a gluten free diet and we are all adapting well to the changes we have had to make.

Coeliac UK relies on donations to assist with providing support, campaigning to improve medical treatment and safe foods, research into new treatments and hopefully one day, a cure.

Instead of gifts for Heidi and Lucy we would like to ask you to make a small donation to Coeliac UK to help them continue the good work.

Thank you.

Helen and Piers x

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
