Birmingham Half Marathon · 26 October 2008 ·

We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

On the 26th October 08 I am going to run a half-marathon for the first time in my life. A couple of colleagues and I followed a rigorous training regime since the beginning of the year and are now ready to participate in the first Birmingham Half-Marathon.

In June 08 I have been to South Africa, where I was working as a volunteer on a building site. We were building a house for five girls, who had lost their parents to AIDS. I have seen poverty at a level unknown to me before. However I have also seen an incredible amount of hope and optimism, creativity and energy and how these can change everything. I have seen that children, who have lost the most important thing of all, the love and support of their parents, do have a chance of a better future, if we give them a hand.

I would like to ask you to sponsor my run to raise money for the Stephen George & Partners Respect 2008+ project. We are working together with Habitat for Humanity (Charity Number 1043641) to support their Orphans and Vulnerable Children Project to build 60 houses over the next three years for AIDS orphans in Sub-Saharan Africa. Please find further information about the project and how you could get involved if you should wish so, under:
