My reason for choosing this charity is a very personal one. In 2008   my partner was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, having being given a 50% chance of survival,  they are now thankfully in remission.

In May 2013 when the' Matriarch' of our family also began her gruelling treatment for the same strain of leukaemia with the same diagnosis- despite being very fit and well she then had to have a transplant of which my mum was able to donate stem cells for this-she is now post transplant and doing incredibly well although frustrated at having very little energy!!

With this kind of treatment it strips away your immune system, they liken it to being a new born baby where you are at risk of picking up the slightest infection and have to rebuild your immunity, it’s a slow process, however it’s a relatively small hill to climb compared to what could have been.

Those of you that know me will obviously know my family members whom I've written about but for those of you who do not I have to explain to you what an inspiration they are-I have witnessed first hand the hair loss, emotions, infections, high temperatures being so cold but being stripped of all blankets with a fan, more blood more platelets more chemo more fluids more antibiotics, blood tests ,Mri' s  bone marrow aspiration's making friends, losing friends-the list is endless and actually 26.2 miles sounds easy compared to what they have gone through!
