My Kilimanjaro Challenge for Julian House January 2006 I will be paying my own airfare and trekking costs, so ALL the money I raise will go to Julian House. I am 46 years old, but if I were a homeless person I would probably have not survived until now! I am a pharmacist who works in the Pharmacy Department at the Royal United Hospital, and in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology at the University of Bath. I have been deliberating this trek for several years and have finally plucked up the courage to accept my own challenge! This is not a holiday! There are no scenic safaris and very little free time. Twenty-four hours of acclimatisation, then it's off on the ascent. From about 12,000 feet the effects of the altitude will start to be felt and a two-day headache begins. To enable me to complete the challenge of trekking to the 'Roof of Africa' - a trek of about 80km (or 50miles) and up to the dizzy height of 5895m (or 19,340ft) - I will need to both lose weight and improve my fitness (both worthy challenges in themselves). I hope that you are able to help me in this challenge, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
