Pancreatic Cancer UK is determined to make a difference by providing support and information to those affected and by raising awareness and funding research. It provides advocacy for patients and families and lobbying to achieve higher priority for pancreatic cancer.

My personal message:

Hello!        Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I applied for a place on the Great North Run (a half marathon, a scary 13.1 miles) in January half hoping that I wouldn't get a place...... but I did! I was going to do it for the challenge, an excuse to eat more and to raise a bit of money for charity. Unfortunately I now have a more important reason to run. My dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

Statistics on survival rates of pancreatic cancer make very depressing reading and I would like to raise as much money as I can for Pancreatic Cancer UK who provide support and information to those affected by the disease as well as raising awareness and funds for research. I know that I hadn't heard or thought much about pancreatic cancer until recently. However, a certain opera singer's death may help to raise awareness now.

POST RUN UPDATE

Well, I survived but it hurt! I managed to complete a very hilly 13.1 miles in rare Tyneside sunshine just under my target time of 2 and a half hours(slow but I have short legs!) and I ran all the way. Saw all the fancy dressers that go interviewed on the TV but alas I wasn't next to them at the right time.( I overtook and beat the 'tree'!) Alison and Kate came to support me and saw me at 3 miles when I was still smiling and at 13 miles when I was grimacing.A local with a plate of choc digestives at mile 11 was a very welcome sight when I needed a spurt of energy to get me up the last long hill!Will I be doing it all again next year........?!
