Dear Ones
Well....I'm back! That is the plane touched down at LHR a week ago, but part of me still feels I'm at 4,800m in the high Andes. I knew this was going to be an adventure (check out my trek quote below), but I hadn't realised exactly how it was going to be an adventure. First huge challenge was getting AMS (Acute Mountain Sickess) within a few hours of arriving at Cusco, and feeling very rough indeed. I remember hearing the doc saying "If she's not better in a few hours then she's not going on the trek", and I knew I had to make the decision to go or to stay. No brainer really....I decided to go.
Difficult to describe the indescribable really. What we experienced and did was incredible - we were tested in many ways, not least of which was the 5 day trek itself, at altitute, in the hot sun during the day and freezing temperatures at night. Its true that we are all capable of more than we know - it isn't until we get tested that we get an insight of how strong we really are.
Thank you to my amazing fellow trekkers and to everyone who helped us achieve our success - the travel company, the trek company, our excellent trek support guys and Beating Bowel Cancer for giving us the opportunity to shine. 10 trekkers have so far raised more than £52,000.
Thank you to you for helping me contribute to this total and for helping me fulfil a little girl's dream to visit Machu Picchu and help make a difference in the world.
