Established in 1981, the Newman Holiday Trust began by running a one week summer holiday for children with special needs. The Trust now provides holidays for about 130 children with special needs aged four to sixteen each year, in various locations around the UK. Due to the high level of skilled care they require or financial circumstances, the children selected for these breaks would not otherwise receive a holiday. The holidays provide a range of fun activities in a safe and supportive environment and use a care ration of one helper to one child at all times. The Trust is an entirely voluntary organization and owes its success to over 200 people who dedicate their free time to helping these children. This voluntary structure ensures that every penny raised goes directly towards a child's holiday.

Story

Hi,

So....I've decided to 'go for it' and thanks to everyone who's donated so far I'm on my way to successfully taking on my 2010 challenge to raise some money for a really worthwhile charity.

The Newman Holiday Trust is a small charity that you probably havent heard of but has around 200 + volunteers each year that give up their time to help a child with learning difficulties have a holiday that otherwise wouldnt have.

We all take for granted our summer holidays but for some families it's almost impossible to take a real break when they have a child with special needs that requires alot of support.

The Newman Trust changes lives, it gives the children the chance to experience some independende away from their family in a supported environment where they can make new friends, take part in all kinds of activities and grow in confidence. The families have a chance to take a break perhaps spend time with their other children or just go out for a meal and catch up on some much needed sleep.

I've been personally involved with the Newman Trust for about 8 years so it's really close to my heart, to see the kids  having so much fun and to see the parents looking so rested and excited to see their child at the end of the week makes all the hard work that goes into organising the holiday so worth while.

I hope that you will sponsor me and help continue changing lives through the fantastic holidays that the Newman Trust runs. For every £20 donated we can take a child to a theme park for the day and buy them an ice cream, £50 could go towards the DJ for the all important end of holiday disco, £100 could go towards hiring a bouncy castle for the week.

The holidays do cost around £8,000 - £10,000 so any donation is greatfuly received and the support you give will definitley help keep me going as I cycle all the way to Paris in June with a sore bum and aching legs but I know it'll be worth it.

Thank you very much in advance.

Helen
