After turining 30 and becoming a working mother of 2 I thought that my days of physical challenges were over. However, after losing my baby niece Lily to a Mitochondrial Disorder, for which there is no cure, my life changed for good. It was so frustrating watching Lily fighting for her life and knowing that there was nothing I could do to help her. A year on it is too late for Lily, however, it is not too late to make a difference and help others. On 5th October I will be taking part in the Great North Run half marathon in aid of The Lily Foundation. The Lily Foundation's main objective is to find a cure for Mitochondrial Diseases by funding a gene testing unit at a major UK hopsital. As well as helping to understand more about this disease, these facilities will help speed diagnosis, help develop treatments and ultimately find a cure. We are well on our way to reaching this goal.
