My brother, Sandy loved the outdoor life. As a young lad he enjoyed playing and watching football and I recall as a child regularly being used as a temporary goal post! In his later years he became a keen golfer and would often walk 12 to 15 miles in the countryside around Ballater. Sandy devoted much of his life to raising funds for various causes. He completed the West Highland Way and many other challenging routes. Sandy was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in April 2002. His fundraising did not stop there. Sandy’s courage and determination helped him to learn to live with the frustrations and the increasing limitations of his illness. He seldom complained, at least, not in public, and in the six years that followed, he raised in excess of £100,000 for the Scottish Motor Neurone Disease Association. His illness finally got the better of him and he died in January 2008. Sandy was well known in golfing circles in the North East of Scotland and further afield. He was held in high regard by his many golfing acquaintances, friends and family. We all miss him very much. In an effort to keep up his good work, his daughter, my niece, has persuaded me to join her in a tandem skydive, in September this year. We are all booked up and ready to go! Of course, we won’t be jumping together but with trained Skydivers. This page allows you to donate directly to SMNDA but off-line I am also collecting for the THE EUAN MACDONALD RESEARCH CENTRE in Edinburgh. www.edinburghcampaign.com for further details. Sandy was really keen to learn about the work being done at this centre and made donations to it also. So if you would like to see me take a run and jump a donation in support of SMNDA, no matter how small, would be very much appreciated. Ready – one, two, three……. JUMP! Thank you for your generosity Helen Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Scottish Motor Neurone Disease Association will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
