Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am fundraising for the youth and education charity Raleigh International. To give you a bit of background, sends young disadvantaged people and those deemed “at risk” to countries around the world on expeditions. They also arrange expeditions for schools, youth agencies etc and work closely with organisations such as Duke of Edinburgh and The Princes’ Trust. The expeditions range from environmental and adventure projects to community projects helping to improve the lives of those living with extreme poverty and in marginalised societies and the charity projects are currently taking place in , & and . The projects are designed to provide a sustainable benefit to communities and environments whilst at the same time giving young people from the life changing experiences and skills that will improve their lives and prospects.
relies on people like me/people on career breaks etc to fundraise so that they can continue to run the projects. I am required to raise £2750 and in return I will be able to go to a village in the Nilgiri Mountains, to volunteer for 3 weeks on a community building project in October. Since 2008, Raleigh has been working on different projects in a number of villages in the Nilgiri Mountains area such as providing adequate housing, sanitation, pre-schools and community centres. I will be helping with the installation of a new bio-gas programme which will provide a sustainable livelihood in agriculture and low cost rural manufacturing and is also a source of fuel for the villagers.
I will be sleeping in a tent amidst the villagers huts and eating food cooked by the community. I will be working alongside local families, assisting them in the infrastructure construction. I will be paying for my flights, kit etc and living in very basic conditions so the money raised will be going to the charity to continue its efforts and not paying for me to go on holiday.
It would be fantastic if you could make a donation, however small, to this amazing charity to help young people in the UK and people in the countries where Raleigh are operating, and enable me to have the experience of a lifetime.
Thanks very much
Emma
