Trek to Everest Base Camp · 31 October 2010

Gifts to the Bridewell Foundation help provide 119 bursaries for children in need of a boarding school education at King Edward’s School Witley and with your support, we would like to provide many more. Donations also enable us to update school facilities and equipment. Thank you.

Story

I have now successfully completed my trek but this is such a great charity I will leave the page running indefinitely. Thanks for taking the time to visit my page. Please help me to raise some money for a really good cause that I know about.

During November 2010 I made a high altitude walk to Everest Base Camp in the company of some like-minded individuals. My journey was a hard but satisfying walk, aiming to reach Everest Base Camp. On the way we ascended Gokyo Ri (17,550 ft), crossed the pass of Cho La (17,783 ft) and ascended Kala Patar (18,448 ft). The route involved sometimes rocky and precipitous footpaths. Temperatures ranged from +25°C to -25°C and although the weather can be unpredictable, we were fairly lucky to have blue skies for most of the trek. Breathing was difficult due to the lack of oxygen at altitude and we took great care to avoid acute mountain sickness by acclimatizing as we climbed higher in order and also avoiding an abrupt end with lots of nasty paperwork.

Please sponsor my efforts by donating to my chosen charity of a school bursary fund. Founded in 1553 as a safe place for destitute children, King Edward's School Witley provides a caring environment in which boys and girls of between 11 and 18 can be nurtured and helped to move beyond the difficulties of their family circumstances so that they can achieve their full potential.

The reason I believe that this charity is so relevant is because King Edward's School gave me the confidence and the will power to continue with a worthwhile venture no matter how hard things get.

ALL of the money donated via my page will be used to sponsor bursary places for disadvantaged children from the families of members of the armed forces. There are currently already children from 20 forces families at the school. However, it costs £24,000 each year to provide a fully funded bursary place there. If you want further details of this wonderful school, please click here.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you again.

Chris
