Hey you! Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As a part of the UK Power Pageant this year , I am raising money for the Christie Charitable Fund. This charity are the leading experts in cancer care, research and education. They have been ranked as the most technologically advanced cancer centre in the world outside North America and they are the largest single site cancer centre in Europe, treating more than 44,000 patients a year. However, they rely on the support of fundraisers to carry out their work. Your donations really do have an impact and you will be helping them to develop research facilities and first rate care for cancer patients and their families.

 The Christie Charity is currently developing a centre for research on Proton Beam Therapy which is the very latest, most precise form of radiation treatment. Unlike conventional radiotherapy, in proton beam therapy the beam of protons stops once it "hits" the cancerous cells. This means that PBT results in much less damage to surrounding tissue. PBT is useful for treating types of cancer in critical areas – when it is important to reduce damage to surrounding tissue as much as possible. 

  The Christie needs to raise £5.6 million to fund the capital cost of building and equipping the dedicated research space within the new PBT Centre. This research facility will be vital in helping to advance the knowledge and therefore effectiveness of this cutting edge treatment. 

 The funds raised by UK Power Pageants will be directed to the Proton Beam Therapy Research Room.
