Have you ever heard the one about the Englishman, the Welshman, and two Irishmen running a marathon in Finland in the middle of summer?!?
On 14 August 2010, Chris White, Iwan Williams, Peter O'Broin and Alec Elliott from FC Irlande, Brussels, will be running the 2010 Helsinki Marathon. Inspired by Newcastle United fan Chris, the lads will be running on behalf of the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, part of the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Charity.
Sir Bobby Robson, a true gentleman in the football game, fought cancer an incredible five times. Sadly, 17 years after his first diagnosis, he lost that long and courageous battle on 31 July 2009. He died very peacefully at his County Durham home. During the last 18 months of his life, and after retiring from football management, Sir Bobby worked hard towards a new goal - fighting cancer through his charity.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation focuses on the early detection and treatment of cancer and the clinical trials of new drugs that will eventually beat it. The Foundation helps experts within the NHS, in collaboration with scientists at Newcastle University, to develop these new treatments. Further information may be found on www.sirbobbyrobsonfoundation.org.uk.Please do what you can to support the ongoing work of the Foundation by making a donation.
