Story
On 28th August – 7th September 2009, my partner Faye and I will be joined by 28 others to climb the 5895M to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for breast cancer services at St Margaret’s Hospital, Epping and Princess Alexandra Hospital ,Harlow , to fund breast cancer care for patients and families.
Within the local area covered by Princess Alexandra and St Margaret’s hospitals, approximately 350 new patients are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Of these, 10% would benefit from treatments that are not standard on the NHS and hence currently not available in the Epping/Harlow area. The charity funds treatment options not covered in the Epping/Harlow area and the charity is seeking to raise sufficient funds to build a central cancer unit covering diagnosis, treatment options and patient beds to ensure continuity in care. In addition, The Breast Unit is collaborating with all the top global pharmaceuticals in search of the ‘wonder’ treatments for breast cancer.
Furthermore, the charity is involved with setting up a “beauty parlour”. The psychological aspects of the patient’s changing appearance can be detrimental to their overall well-being; by offering complimentary care for patients who have suffered hair loss with the fitting of wigs, or other additional help to maintain the patient’s dignity and self-esteem while undergoing treatment can improve their overall quality of life.
Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa , the highest 'walkable' mountain in the world, a magnificent and spectacular undertaking. We have been set the challenge of raising £7,500 for this event and we therefore ask that you please give generously to our cause!
Many thanks.Henry and Faye
