Activity Week · 15 February 2010

Disability Snowsport UK’s vision is of mountains and ski slopes free from barriers. It's our mission to make snowsport accessible for everyone; regardless of disability, injury or experience.

Story

What are we doing?

Heather and Peter have volunteered to become helpers for an upcoming trip to California organised by the charity Disability Snowsport UK !!

In February 2010, eight disabled skiers and four helpers (including  ourselves) will be boarding a plane bound for California. The trip will last for around 10 days in total and will give the skiers a fantastic opportunity to visit Big Bear Mountain, one of the premier ski resorts in the USA.

As volunteers, we need your sponsorship to cover the cost of the trip, and to raise valuable extra resources for the charity.

What is Disability Snowsport all about?

DSUK has been running these trips for over 20 years and each year runs a series of skiing and boarding weeks to some of Europe’s and North America’s top resorts. Some of the skiers have been coming on the trips for over 20 years and are joined each year by a growing number of people experiencing the sport for the first time. Catering for all
disabilities and all ages, it is the unique mix of skiers, helpers and instructors that makes the activity weeks so special and so much fun.

DSUK aims to increase opportunities, fitness, mobility, freedom, social interaction, independence and skill of people with disabilities, and to identify and nurture the abilities of young potential athletes.

DSUK has also worked with wounded and injured service personnel, who have suffered horrific injuries in the course of serving our country. Their work has helped these brave heroes hugely.

In summary, Disability Snowsport UK aims to make a real difference to peoples lives. To read more about Disability Snowsport, please visit http://www.disabilitysnowsport.org.uk/

How can you help?

Heather and Peter have set themselves a target of raising over £3000 for the charity. This will allow Heather and Peter to act as volunteers for the charity, and to assist the eight skiers in their activities during the trip. The skiers will have a range of disabilities, and we are there to assist the skiers in any daily tasks that they would like assistance with during the 10 day trip.

We aim to raise a minimum of £3000 so that each additional pound raised can allow the charity to continue supporting people in the years to come. Your donations will go a long way to raising this money.

Your donations can also benefit from Gift Aid. Gift aid is tax relief on money donated to UK charities. Donations can be treated as if the donor had already deducted basic rate tax from them. The charity can then reclaim this tax to increase the value of a donation.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now - all donations are welcome and will be gratefully received by the charity!

Kind regards

Heather & Peter
