We believe decent homes are the heartbeat of strong communities and so we also fight for land rights for women, upgrade urban slums and informal settlements, improve access to water and sanitation, and help communities become more resilient in the face of natural disasters.

Story

UPDATE: Although we have now returned back from Sri Lanka, this page will stay active until 31st May 2006 and any money donated will go directly to Habitat for Humanity through justgiving.com, to continue to support the relief work in Sri Lanka.

HHFH.co.uk are a group of 7 volunteers (6 from Pitney Bowes Ltd in Harlow and 1 from 'Annie Loughran Consulting Limited') who are fundraising for Habitat for Humanity Great Britain to work alongside the local community in Sri Lanka to build essential homes for those most in need after the 26th December 2004 tsunami disaster.

The group consists of:-
Alf Duncan
Stephen French
Raymond Lo
Annie Loughran
Mary Richmond
Barry Simkins
Peter Ward

How the project will work We will be working and building alongside families who were effected by the tsunami. Our team will leave on Saturday 15th October 2005 and will return on Sunday 23rd October 2005.

The sponsorship money raised, will go towards covering the cost of the trip, enabling us to build a house, and at least £3,500 of this money will go towards the building materials in Sri Lanka. The more money we can raise, the more houses that can be built.
- £50 can repair a damaged house where the foundations remain
- £250 will build a basic 'core' house with an existing foundation
- £2000 will build a small community

By raising £1,595 each, our team of 7 will have built 1 house during our 1 week visit to Sri Lanka and raised sufficient funds to build at least 14 new homes or rebuild 70 damaged ones. Work could be digging foundations, clearing rubble, mixing concrete or mortar, moving and laying blocks, making window frames, landscaping, plastering or painting.

THIS IS NO HOLIDAY! OUR TEAM WOULD ALL LIKE TO THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND DONATIONS.
