Story
On 5th September 2009 I will be embarking on a massive charity walk from to my home in North West Children In Need 2009, a charity that is very close to my heart.
This is why I am looking to you all to please support me in this exciting and challenging fund raising event by donating whatever you can, no matter how small, as every single penny will count towards the much needed funds that Children In Need needs to enable it to continue its excellent work.
I will be following official national long distance paths starting from the Sierra Nevada region, Southern Spain, a total of approx.1400 miles!
My route in then includes climbing Mulhacen (at nearly 11,500 feet the highest peak on the Iberian peninsula), joining the GR7 national trail and the E4 long distance path to the Pyrenees in northern .
I will then be hiking the GR11 La Senda Pirenaica trail, on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees, until I reach and the Atlantic Ocean, making my way from there to where I will catch a ferry to to start the English part of the hike. At I join the South West Peninsula Coastal Path to Minehead - a stretch of 410 miles. I will cross the to Chepstow where I pick up the Offa's Dyke path taking me through 177 miles of beautiful historic landscapes bordering and Wales all the way north to Prestatyn. The last leg of my journey will be local footpaths and minor roads taking me home to Leigh, Lancs. This venture will take me approximately three months and I am planning to arrive in on or very near to Children In Need night, Friday 20 November in order to encourage people to donate and give generously to this amazing cause - Children In Need.
Just so that you are aware, every penny raised will go to Children In Need. Any expenses I occur along the way will be footed by myself personally.
My progress can be tracked via Youtube where I will try to update as regularly as possible my journey through videos/pictures of the areas that I walk. I want to do this to ensure the success of this event by sharing with you the beautiful scenery along the way and so that you can feel more involved with the hike itself - www.youtube.com/HikeWithMike09
