Hiking For Heroes - The Memorial Miles
Is a sponsored walk around a route that is dictated in length by the number of soldiers that have been killed in the current theatres of operations (Afganistan & Iraq). Therefore I will TAB a mile for each service person that has died in these theatres.
At this present moment the distance we need to cover is 392 miles (as at 2000hrs 01/09/09), we will also increase this distance if anyone else should lose a life until we have walked the final mile and stop in London.
Each mile will be named with a name of the service person that has died in service in the theatres and at the end of the walk we will lay a wreath to collectively remember each of these people. The finishing line will be the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London
Our aim is to raise in the region of £20,000 + for Help for Heroes and also to raise Public awareness of the charity.
The Route
The route is around the garrissons in the south of England that have regimental or service ties to some of the fallen. The Garrissons that we will walk through are:
*Colchester, Brize Norton, Bicester, Tidworth, Bulford, Larkhill, Lympstone, Blandford, Poole, Portsmouth, Winchester, Aldershot and London.
Statements of Support
I am proud to endorse Lance Corporal Patrick Hards “Hiking For Heroes – The Memorial Miles”. The idea of dedicating memorial miles is both an effective and poignant way to mark the sacrifice made by the Armed Forces. This endeavour will clearly generate significant National support and I am very pleased to play my part in that support.Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE
I am wishing Patrick every success in his endeavours and hope that you will help him to help our service men and women
