I have now completed the walk which took me 12hrs and 15mins. I think I would have just inside the 12hrs if it hadn't been for John Dunlop's string of racehorses which were being exercised on the gallops in Arundel Estate when we were walking through. We had to wait for the whole string to go past and as they were all youngsters, that took a while.
The countryside was fabulous and the weather was just right for walking - however the feet did suffer and I can now recommend Compeed Blister Plasters to any one.
I am really trying hard to get to the £2000 target I have set myself so please help me to get there. Thank you.
(I have just started working for HEROS after being a volunteer and wanted to raise some money personally to help all the horses that are now cared for and will be cared for under the HEROS banner. I am hoping other supporters join me and anyone can join the walk - check out their website www.justwalk.co.uk. There are lots of different length walks available and I am doing the big one - 60k - mad or what!
Last year (2008) HEROS re-homed 92 ex-racehorses and in 2007 re-homed 94. So far this year they have re-homed 25 which is about the same as this time last year. HEROS are dedicated to ensure these horses are well cared for by their loanees and this takes time ,money and expertise. They also have about 30 horses in their care for re-training and re-homing, at any one time and some horses who are permanently there ,as they are too old or infirm to be re-homed.
Please support these wonderful creatures. Racing is only a small part of their lives and need to be cared for and enjoy many more happy years.)
