Thank You to all of you lovely people who donated and your kind words and encouragement! Couldn't have done it without your help and support!
I completed the 10k in 64mins on Sunday the 6th of July -----> Considering this was my first run, and minimal training before the event itself, I am pretty pleased with the result.
Together, WE have raised in excess of £500 including Gift Aid which is a fab achievement and I'm sure the money will go a loooong way in allievating the suffering of the people of Burma.
For those of you who may want to donate, you can still donate and all funds will be directly credited into the charity's account.
Will be emailing you all pictures and videos of the Aid efforts by the charity MGR in Burma soon. I am awaiting the above mentioned from the charity and will post them on the site as soon as I recieve em!
The Cause
Imagine having no shelter, no food or clean drinking water.... Basic necessities we have taken for granted!
The devastating effects of the Cyclone in Burma have left over 78,000 people dead and misplaced millions. Certain survivors have been eating coconut, bamboo shoots and the inner stems of banana for over a week. Children in the worst affected areas are suffering from ‘acute malnourishment’ – the most serious level of hunger. When people reach this stage they can die in a matter of days!
Such is the scale of disaster that it is hard to imagine what these people maybe going through.
Event
I will be taking part in the British 10k London Marathon on the 6th of July 2008, inshallah.
Why am I doing this?
Firstly, have never run a marthon ever - so doing it for a laugh and see if i'l survive the distance ;)
Secondly, I hope WE can all get together and raise as much funds as we can for the poor folks in Burma.
Please be generous and donate as little or as much as you like. Every penny counts. Im sure we could all spare a few quid, be it a pound, fiver or tenner.. n if ure feeling more generous - u cud donate unlimited :)
Your donations will help MGR (the registered charity) provide:
clean drinking water,
water purification tablets,
emergency shelter,
cooking utensils (and)
food for the survivors.
MGR already have aid workers in the ground in Burma
distributing aid, So your donations will make a HUGE difference !!!
If your'e thinking someone will donate... Let that Someone be YOU! Please spare a thought for the thousands of people who will sleep hungry tonight.. without shelter.. BUT with hope that their fellow beings will HELP them.
Any money donated through this page will be transferred directly to MGR's bank account and all Gift Aid will be reclaimed if you're a taxpayer. Thanks.
