The “Portland Pretties” would like to welcome you to our web page.  At present we are operationally deployed having left the U.K in November ‘08 and are not returning to our homeport of  Plymouth until July ‘09.  We decided to give ourselves a small goal to keep us busy whilst at sea and what better way than to train for a charity event and raise money for a very worthy cause!

 

Breast Cancer Charities are close to all of our hearts and it was a unanimous decision to undertake a “Race AGAINST BREAST CANCER”.  This is not an easy task on a Warship, especially in temperatures approaching 35 degrees!  Training for the event has been made slightly easier with the ship’s Physical Training Instructor (PTI) helping us with fitness training 3 times a week.  The event itself will take place onboard at sea and to complete the 5 Km race we will have to run 22 laps of the steel deck!  Not all of us are natural athletes and some have chosen to do it in “3-legged ” style.   We will wear our pink T-Shirts with pride and enjoy our day no matter how long it takes us to complete the distance!
