Mark Tilbury's fundraising · 20 February 2016

Rhino Ark raises money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, namely Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Mau Eburu. These provide an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and mountain bongo as well as protecting vital upland watertables of Kenya

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our HOG CHARGE TEAM JustGiving page.

This is the 18th. year that the Hog Charge Team has participated in the annual Rhino Charge. The Rhino Charge is an off-road event for 4WD vehicles and to enter each participant has to raise sponsorship for the Rhino Ark Trust charity. This charity has completed the world's longest -- 440 kms -- privately funded electric fence around the Aberdare National Park. The object of the fence was to protect the crops of the farms around the park from wild animals and also to protect the wild animals from poachers plus to protect the forest from being made into charcoal. The Aberdare Mountain Range is also the main water catchment area for the city of Nairobi with 7 rivers emerging from this range.

Rhino Ark has also completed a 48kms fence around the Mount Eburu Forest in the Rift Valley and is now fencing off the Mount Kenya National Park.

The Hog Charge Team raises the majority of its sponsorship by organising the annual Hog Charge. This is a cross country bicycle event, aimed mainly at school children. The venue for the Hog Charge is Sukari Ranch which is the home of Brookside Dairies and Peponi School -- the 2 major sponsors of the Hog Charge. Teams of 4 have to visit 10 controls by riding across the ranch and they are timed on the arrival at the control of their third member. The aim of the event is to get children involved in Conservation, to be able to talk to potential sponsors and raise sponsorship, to learn all about the importance of team work, and finally to be challenged by the event itself. On January 24th. 2016, the Hog Charge had 98 teams take part and raised 3,669,574.00 million Kenya shillings -- approximately GBP 24,795.00.

Last year the Hog Charge Team was awarded the trophy for raising the 3rd. highest sponsorship amount at the Rhino Charge. The Team has now raised over 40 million Kenya shillings ( approx GBP 270,000.00 ) for the charity and is very grateful to all the school children, parents, teachers, family, friends and corporate sponsors who have donated generously through the team.

We would like to try and raise over 4 million shillings again this year by the date of the Rhino Charge ( May 30th.). We therefore ask that you support the Hog ChargeTeam in trying to achieve this goal.
