Story
Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who generously donated and supported the original fundraising campaign to install the public access defibrillator (PAD) at Holywell Lake. Your kindness and community spirit made it possible to place this life-saving device in the heart of the community.
The Community of Holywell Lake are now working with AEDdonate to raise funds to support the ongoing maintenance of the defibrillator. Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the device remains fully operational and ready to save a life at any time for residents and visitors.
Why Ongoing Defibrillator Maintenance Is So Important
A defibrillator is only effective if it is maintained. Batteries and pads have expiry dates, and ensuring they are replaced in good time means the device is rescue-ready. In a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), every second counts, and a well-maintained defibrillator can make the difference between life and death.
Across the UK, more than 30,000 people suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest each year. Early defibrillation within the first few minutes can increase survival chances to over 80%. Maintaining the Holywell Lake defibrillator ensures it will always be ready to provide that critical early intervention while emergency services are on their way.
How Maintenance Will Support the CommunityOngoing funding will help cover essential replacement pads and batteries before they expire, ensuring the defibrillator remains available for 24/7 public use and continues to provide peace of mind for the whole community.
