The Homeless World Cup is a unique, pioneering social enterprise which exists to end homelessness. It uses football to energise homeless people to change their own lives.
The 9th edition of the annual Homeless World Cup tournament will take place at the Champ de Mars, Paris, France from 21 - 28 August 2011.
The event will unite more than 600 homeless and socially marginalised people from 55 nations.
For the players the Homeless World Cup represents an unlikely opportunity to achieve a dream shared by millions; to wear their national colours with pride, enjoy the adulation of the crowd and represent their country at a first class international football tournament.
The Homeless World Cup Bursary Fund is a financial support platform that enables players from economically poorer nations to realise this dream by assuring their travel to the tournament.
Your contribution will make a difference by providing players with the safest possible journey to and from the tournament, covering travel costs for the teams and associated expences including gaining passports and VISA’s, travel insurance and other costs associated with participation.
Usman Musah and his Ghana team were one of five national teams who attend the Rio 2010 Homeless World Cup with the aid of the Homeless World Cup Bursary Fund.
He said: “In my life, I have never thought of travelling and having such a unique opportunity to meet people from different countries with different backgrounds. People who can sympathise with the challenges I have faced in my life.
“After the Homeless World Cup my attitude towards life has changed. I have altered my perspectives. I am no longer homeless and have become an independent person who sees the future to be bright.
“I thank the organisers of the Homeless World Cup and the people that made it possible for me to take part in this tournament. I hope they continue to enable others to change their lives for the better."
The Paris 2011 Homeless World Cup takes place from 19 - 29 August 2011 and is supported by UEFA, Nike, global ambassador Eric Cantona and international footballers Didier Drogba and Rio Ferdinand.
