Story
The Homeless World Cup is an annual football tournament with teams from around the globe. The real difference is that the players are all homeless people.
The Big Issue in the North Trust has been managing the team since the tournament started in 2003.
During this period we will have worked with over 3,500 homeless people during the trials and selection period, training and in the competition itself.
Following previous competitions:
92% have a new motivation in life
38% have found regular employment
46% improved their housing situation
34% have pursued further education
27% have addressed their drug dependency
72% continue to play football after the competition
We require donations to enable the England team to compete in the tournament. The target for Brazil 2010 is approximately £30,000.
