Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
In March/April of 2008 I completed the 23 rd Marathon des Sables (http://www.saharamarathon.co.uk/) in the Moroccon Sahara. My main goal was to finish, preferebly in one piece, and thats what I did! and in the process also raising money for Mencap. This is got to be the hardest thing I did especially when finding it was one of the hardest years ever! The distance covered was 151 miles over six days, the terrain was uneven, rocky, stony ground and every day there was a significant distance over sand dunes. This ranged from 5 miles to 10 miles, all this in heat which this year topped 50c. A six day event is run in stages which must be completed in set time periods. One of the stages was a non stop distance of 47 miles. Competitors don't know the actual distances prior to the event, but this years were as follows:- Stage 1 - 31.6 kms Stage 2 - 38 kms Stage 3 - 40.5 kms Stage 4 - 75.5 kms Stage 5 - 42.2 kms Stage 6 - 17.5 kms
This is all for a good cause as Mencap is the UK's leading learning disability charity working with people with a learning disability and their families and carers. For more information please log on to:- http://www.mencap.org.uk/ Many thanks for your support.
