FACT: The UK's hospices need to raise more than £1 million PER DAY to keep offering their services to terminally ill patients. Please help!

UPDATE: we completed the walk! We got absolutely soaked and felt more than a bit fed-up when we came over Seaford Head, buffetted by very strong winds and sideways rain. But we made it, a little sore and somewhat blistered!

Make our suffering worthwhile and donate now!

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are a group of family and friends who will be walking the Vanguard Way in East Sussex from High Hurstwood to Seaford - a distance of twenty-six and a quarter miles over fields, lanes, Downs (and Ups!) on Saturday 10th September 2011. (EDIT: actually, it's 27.1 miles or 43.6 kilometres).

The entire madcap adventure has been planned by Graham Spencer and will raise money for Help The Hospices. Graham's Mum is currently very ill with Motor Neurone Disease and has recently spent several weeks as a guest of St Wilfrid's Hospice in Chichester. She's also made use of their "Hospice at Home" service, which provides fantastic support for people with terminal illness in the community, allowing them to stay in their own home, close to family.

Hospices throughout the UK rely almost entirely on voluntary donations to fund their work. The Hospices do amazing work, caring for people of all backgrounds on the basis of their medical needs. But without donations, much of their work, staff and facilities would be unaffordable.

So, please give whatever you can afford for this very good cause. To incentivise you, we are going to do the hard work of walking a marathon! The team consists of Graham, John, Kev, Neil, Dave and Paul  - ably assisted by wives and partners (who are taking the role of pointing and laughing very seriously). Training seems to consist mainly of talking about it, so we expect a few sore feet and blisters at the end.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer (overseas donors - please ensure you do not tick the Gift Aid box unless you pay UK income tax). So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you!
