I never thought somewhere I'd perceived as being to such a sad place could be so calm, comfortable, kind and cheerful, the staff were so patient and helpful, gentle and cheery and I know Howerd appreciated all their efforts in making his final few weeks as easy as possible.

Howerd quietly, just as he did most things, passed away on Wednesday morning, 5th May 2010, I was able to sit with him, hold his hand  to say goodbye along with his two good friends, Clive and Margaret. 

One thing that Dad did ask was that rather than spend your money on flowers for him, please would you give that money to St Richard's Hospice to help someone else be cared for as well as he was.

Thursday dawned bright and sunny, the funeral service was beautiful and the family was so pleased to see the church full of the many people who thought so highly of Dad.  I would like to thank everyone for all their kind thoughts, words and stories we received.
