UK Solo Mountain Bike Championships · 22 May 2010

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

How many laps is that?

An appropriate name considering I am, with your help, going to be raising much needed funds for the Alzheimer's Society

What y' doing? I'm racing in the UK's inaugural Solo Mountain Bike Championships this weekend. It's a 24hr race starting at midday 22 May.

Why? My father has been diagnosed with Dementia & a rare form of dysphasia

Where? It all takes place at Scotland's southern most 7Stanes trail center at Newcastleton

Training ? (UPDATED 19th May 2010)

Well, that's it for now. I rode on Saturday (4.5hrs) and Monday (4.5hrs) and my legs are still sore - not a good sign at all.

The training has been done, the pre-race events raced and the whole thing has not come together!

2 weeks off the bike in Feb' then 3 weeks with a swollen knee at Easter (it's still causing some concern and twinges) and then 2 weeks of a stinking cold at the end of April / start of May have conspired to put a huge spanner in my hopes and expectations. This is the Pete Tong training schedule!

So, I'll go, ride and see how many hours I can manage on the bikes around the course. Realistically, 12hrs. I had hoped for 17hrs.
